The fulltime position of Consultant for Religious Education is an excellent opportunity for a creative, enthusiastic minister committed to Catechesis and 1ifelong faith formation. Primary responsibilities include sharing in the mission and projects of the Office of Religious Education especially assessment of curriculum, textbooks and resources for catechetical processes, providing appropriate opportunities for ongoing faith formation and certification for parish and school personnel, and development of lay ecclesial ministers.

The ideal candidate will possess at least five years in effective administration of a parish catechetical process, working knowledge of key Vatican and USCCB documents guiding the Church’s mission of evangelization and catechesis and creativity in designing new initiatives to serve the catechetical and other pastoral needs of diocesan parishes and schools. Applicants must hold an M.A. in theology or religious studies, hold active parish membership, a commitment to the role of catechesis in every aspect of ministry, and enjoy serving within a collaborative environment with the current staff. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication is essential.

St. Anthony/All Saints parish in Canton, Ohio seeks to hire a part-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry to develop a comprehensive Youth Ministry program for high school students, 9 – 12 grades. The Coordinator of Youth Ministry provides a catechetical component in youth gatherings and offers catechesis in other practical ways. Additionally, the candidate should provide social gatherings for teens and develop programs for outreach and service, providing pastoral reflection on their experiences prior to, during and after experiences. The candidate should develop relationships with teens and parents and provide pastoral guidance when necessary. This person arranges for teens to participate in diocesan sponsored programs and leadership training, operates a budget and keeps the parish faith community informed of youth ministry activities and goals. The ideal candidate should have a willingness to work with the parish Hispanic population and diocesan offices. A degree in Religious Education, Theology, Youth Ministry or related field is preferred. NEW

Listed above are the positions available in the Diocese of Youngstown for Ministry Year 2017-2018. Persons currently employed as a Parish Minister in the Diocese of Youngstown may send a cover letter and a resume directly to the pastor, but are asked to notify Barbara Walko, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, of any applications. Consultation services are also available from the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Cindee Case, for Youth and Young Adult Ministry positions.

Interested persons not currently employed in a parish of the Diocese of Youngstown are asked to:

  • Submit a letter of interest, resume, transcripts and references to the Diocesan Director of Religious Education to initiate selection and to receive information regarding positions available.
  • Set an appointment with the Diocesan Director of Religious Education or the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for orientation to diocesan guidelines for certification and employment procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PARISH MINISTERS

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

Parish Pastoral Associates, Directors of Youth Ministry, Parish Directors of Religious Education

A Master’s Degree with one of the following variations:

  • MA/MS in theology, catechetics, youth ministry, pastoral ministry, religious studies, or another related theological area, plus: Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following areas (if not represented in the MA): administration, supervision, catechetical methods, pastoral ministry, or youth ministry.
  • MA/MS in Education or Education Administration, plus: Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality).
  • MA/MS in unrelated field. Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality). Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following areas (if not represented in the MA): administration, supervision, catechetical methods, pastoral ministry, or youth ministry.
  • A person with a Bachelor’s Degree who does not as yet meet this standard can be hired with a one year certificate and a plan of study agreed upon by the parish staff person and the pastor.

Parish Pastoral Ministers, Coordinators of Youth Ministry and Parish Coordinators of Religious Education

A Bachelor’s degree with one of the following variations:

  • BA in theology, catechetics, youth ministry, pastoral ministry, religious studies or another related theological area, plus: Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following area (if not represented in the BA): administration, catechetical methods, pastoral ministry, or youth ministry.
  • BA/BS in Education, plus: Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality).
  • BA/BS in unrelated field, plus: Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality). Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following areas (if not represented in the BA): administration, pastoral ministry, catechetical methods, or youth ministry.
  • A person working toward a Bachelor’s degree who does not yet meet this standard may be hired with a one year Certificate and a plan of study agreed upon by the parish staff person and the pastor.
