Christ Our Savior Parish, in Struthers, Ohio, seeks a fulltime PDRE/PCRE responsible for ongoing development of parish pre-K through Gr. 8 religious education program, assisting in religious education program in the parish K-8 school, sacramental preparation and programming for Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation, compliance officer for the diocesan Child Protection program for the parish and school, and adult faith formation. Hispanic Culture and Spanish Language Catechiist

This part time minister will assist the Parish Director of Religious Education in responding to the needs for Spanish and English speaking parishioners in the areas of catechesis, sacramental preparation (Initiation, RCIA, Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation) and other cultural celebrations (ie., Quinceañeras). The ideal applicant will be bilingual speaking and a good communicator in written and oral skills, possess Religious Education Certification or a willingness to acquire further formation, and enjoy working as a team. Little Flower Catholic Parish, a vibrant Roman Catholic community nestled in the rural outskirts of Canton, Ohio, is looking to hire a Director of Youth Missionary Outreach. This full time lay ecclesial minister will oversee and orchestrate missionary outreach and evangelization for young people, from adolescence into young adulthood. This person will serve as youth minister for the middle and high school students, as well as post-secondary-school young adults, empowering them to realize the vision of missionary discipleship cast by the magisterium, especially as exemplified in the 2013 apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium. In particular, they will work to empower teens and young adults to become servant leaders in peer ministry in the parish and beyond. The person in this position will also collaborate with the coordinator of a well-established Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, ages 3 – 12, helping to promote continuity of vision for the parish youth programs.

St. Anthony/All Saints Parish, a faith-filled Italian, Polish, Hispanic, Slovak Community seeks a fulltime Director of Catechesis to join the pastoral staff including the Pastor, Pastoral Minister for Youth, Young Adults, Adults and RCIA, Pastoral Minister for Hispanic Ministry, and Pastoral Minister for Pastoral Care. The Director of Catechesis will oversee the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program (ages 3-12) with designated atrium spaces. The Director will coordinate sacramental preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation working with the Hispanic Minister to provide bilingual preparation and celebrations for parents and children. He/she will also coordinate junior high catechesis and work with the Parish Youth Minister in coordinating a combined Confirmation preparation program with neighboring parishes. With the Pastoral Team, the Director of Catechesis assists with the Parish Feast Day Celebration in June and other significant community events throughout the year. The ideal applicant will have an openness to the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and a willingness to support the families, catechists and children in the process, including a growing ministry to area homeschool families. (Although formation and experience in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is preferred candidates with an openness to attending formation will also be strongly considered.)

St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton, Ohio, a robust and active community, as envisioned by the Second Vatican Council, is seeking a full time team member to join the parish staff. It is expected that this new ministry leader will direct a comprehensive (multi-component) parish youth ministry, oversee Confirmation preparation, and work with a diverse, creative, and flexible team of faith-filled Catholic ministers in supporting the parish’s wide range of ministries for all ages. During the application and interview process and in the course of the staff’s planning sessions, specific job responsibilities will be discerned based on the applicant’s ministerial gifts, talents and preferences. The new team member will inherit successful programs but will also be expected to be resourceful about program development and renewal, and be skilled at working collaboratively to meet the changing needs of the parish and the surrounding communities. An academic background in theology or pastoral ministry is required with a Master’s degree preferred. An experienced full time Pastoral Minister or Associate is needed to serve the close knit Parish Community of Saint Columba. The preferred applicant will have both pastoral and catechetical expertise to provide direct ministry and oversight of multiple ministries. Pastoral care of the homebound, hospitalized and nursing home residents, development and implementation of quality adult faith formation opportunities, resource to the elementary and youth programs, and various parish ministries will enflesh a meaningful position description with room for much creativity. Availability on weekends and assistance with some Diocesan celebrations is expected.

Listed above are the positions available in the Diocese of Youngstown for Ministry Year 2017-2018. Persons currently employed as a Parish Minister in the Diocese of Youngstown may send a cover letter and a resume directly to the pastor, but are asked to notify Barbara Walko, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, of any applications. Consultation services are also available from the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Cindee Case, for Youth and Young Adult Ministry positions.

Interested persons not currently employed in a parish of the Diocese of Youngstown are asked to:

  • Submit a letter of interest, resume, transcripts and references to the Diocesan Director of Religious Education to initiate selection and to receive information regarding positions available.
  • Set an appointment with the Diocesan Director of Religious Education or the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for orientation to diocesan guidelines for certification and employment procedures.

Parish Pastoral Associates, Directors of Youth Ministry, Parish Directors of Religious Education

A Master’s Degree with one of the following variations:

  • MA/MS in theology, catechetics, youth ministry, pastoral ministry, religious studies, or another related theological area, plus: Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following areas (if not represented in the MA): administration, supervision, catechetical methods, pastoral ministry, or youth ministry.
  • MA/MS in Education or Education Administration, plus: Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality).
  • MA/MS in unrelated field. Twenty-four (24) semester credits in catechetics and theology (Old and New Testament Scriptures, liturgy, sacraments, systematics, morality). Six (6) credits or 60 hours of diocesan sponsored in-service in the following areas (if not represented in the MA): administration, supervision, catechetical methods, pastoral ministry, or youth ministry.
  • A person with a Bachelor’s Degree who does not as yet meet this standard can be hired with a one year certificate and a plan of study agreed upon by the parish staff person and the pastor.
