Assistant Director of Communications | ARCHDIOCESE OF INDIANAPOLIS

Location: Downtown Indianapolis

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is seeking an Assistant Director of Communications for its central office. The assistant director reports to the director of communications and will be responsible for implementing the communication strategy for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, aligning with the mission of evangelizing catechesis and the new Archdiocesan pastoral plan. This role oversees internal and external communications as well as the execution of marketing initiatives. The ideal candidate will also develop and manage content creation across all platforms, ensuring adherence to brand standards. Additionally, this position leads media relations, supports crisis communication efforts, and is prepared to step in for the Director of Communication when needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church; strong knowledge of Catholic Church’s ethics, theology, traditions, procedures and organizational structures.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, mass media, marketing, journalism or related field. Master’s degree preferred with 10 or more years practical work experience.
  • Comfortable with various forms of electronic communications (e.g., social media, websites, digital marketing, email marketing, videography, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with community relations and issues management.
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues of importance in the Catholic Church.
  • Sound analytical, critical thinking and judgment skills.
  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about maintaining brand standards across an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining collaborative, positive relationships with key constituencies and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites and a variety of social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
  • A strategic thinker, self-starter, well-organized, team player, multi-tasker, and collaborator with good time management.
  • Willingness to travel and be available for evening and weekend work, as necessary.
  • Professional demeanor with ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under pressure in critical circumstances.

Monday through Thursday, on-site, 1400 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis
