The Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will commence a yearlong celebration of its 75th anniversary with an opening Mass on May 20, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in St. Columba Cathedral with the Very Reverend Monsignor Robert Siffrin, V.G. presiding.
This is the first of a series of events planned for the anniversary, with the theme, “With Pride in the Past, and Faith in the Future.”
The educational component of the celebration will include a traveling display of the history of the diocese, historical videos of the diocese and cathedral produced by the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown (CTNY) and a lecture series on the history of the diocese.
Ursuline Sister Regina Rogers will speak at various venues on “The History, Role, Contributions and Future of Religious Communities of Women in the Diocese of Youngstown.”
Dr. Hosffman Ospino, Ph.D., Professor of Theology and Religious Education at Boston College will address the topics of “What Does it Mean to be Catholic Today?” and “Effective Leadership and Ministry in Today’s Diverse Church.”
There will also be an ecumenical prayer service at 6:00 p.m. on January 27, 2019 at St. Columba Cathedral.
A closing Mass will be offered on June 9, 2019 also at 4:00 p.m. at the cathedral.
