Music Program
St. Jude and Our Lady of Lourdes Parishes consists of 2 parishes, in Columbiana and East Palestine, respectively. The music programs consist of 90% volunteer musicians. At St. Jude Parish, the music program consists of cantors (5) and a volunteer adult choir. The choir is composed of 8 members and is Tenor/Bass heavy. The parish is in the process of installing a new 3-manual Allen organ. Our Lady of Lourdes parish consists of cantors (4) and a choir composed of 10 members. Both parishes currently use the St. Michael Hymnal. The parishes are currently served by a Director of Music at both parishes, this will be replaced by 1 individual.
Overview of Responsibilities
The responsibilities include (10 hours per week):
- Accompany the Sunday liturgies: 4:00, 11:00 (St. Jude), and 8:30 (Our Lady), and additional holy days throughout the year (such as: Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.).
- Direct and rehearse the choirs at both parishes (academic year).
- Rehearse cantors to facilitate their role in helping the congregation sing.
- Recruit competent cantors and choir members.
- Schedule cantors and additional musicians
- Work closely with the Pastor to plan and review the liturgical repertoire.
- Coordinate liturgical music for weddings and other sacramental celebrations.
- Attend staff meetings and collaborate effectively with the parish staff.
- Be informed about current liturgical guidelines and principles as they apply to liturgical music.
