Reverend Leo Pleban | Funeral Mass

With sorrow, the Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, announces the death of Reverend Leo Pleban on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. He was 88 years old and is survived by his brother, Reverend Alex Pleban, sister-in-law, Mary Pleban and two nieces, Michele Colen and Julie Clark.

Father Pleban was born on June 9, 1934, in York Run, Pa., the son of John and Roselia Pleban. He attended Wynn Public School and Saint John School in Uniontown, Pa., and Saint Fidelis High School and College and Seminary in Herman Pa., before entering Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa., earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Divinity degree.

He was ordained on May 28, 1960, by Bishop Emmet Walsh in Saint Columba Cathedral.

Following ordination, Father Pleban served as associate pastor at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Canton, Saint Rose Parish in Girard, Saint Joseph Parish in Massillon and Saint Louis Parish in Louisville. In 1973 he was named pastor of Saint Ann Parish in Sebring and in 1984 pastor of Saint Joseph the Provider Parish in 1984. He retired in 2000.

Father Pleban was elected to the Senate of Priests in 1967 and served two terms. He also served as an advocate on the Marriage Tribunal and was a chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Girard Council #2935

Father Pleban’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Fairchance, Pa., with viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
