Event Details

On October 17th, Bishop David Bonnar and the Diocese of Youngstown celebrated the Opening Mass of the diocesan phase of a worldwide “Synod on Synodality.” Consultations, listening, and dialogue have now begun in our diocese, and this process will continue in steps leading to the Synod of Bishops in 2023. All are invited to learn more and participate in this synod: visit for more information and to fill out an online form and reflection tool. Responses are required by November 30, 2021.

The word “Synod” means to “journey together,” and the theme for this Synodal process is: “Commuion, Participation, and Mission.” In his homily for the Opening Mass, Bishop Bonnar said that this Synod “is the continuation of Pope Francis’ missionary dream seeking to bring the Good News to the world, especially to the peripheries with the hope of bringing renewal to the Church, a renewal that breathes new life and change into the Church from the Holy Spirit.”
