In accordance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the Most Reverend George V. Murry, S. J., Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has named Mr. Dominic Colucy, Coordinator of the Safe Environment Program for the Diocese of Youngstown, effective July 1, 2019.
As the Safe Environment Coordinator, Mr. Colucy will ensure accountability on the Diocesan level for the VIRTUS program and for the compliance of the Essential Norms for Diocesan policies dealing with allegations of sexual abuse of minors.
Mr. Colucy has served as Director of Religious Education for the Basilica of St. John the Baptist and St. Peter Catholic Church in Canton, Ohio. A graduate from Walsh University in 2014, earning a bachelor’s degree in theology and philosophy, he went on to complete a Master of Theological Studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. In addition to serving as an adjunct instructor at Walsh University, Dominic has offered presentations in the area of adult formation. He currently lives in Fairlawn, Ohio with his wife Julianne and son Anthony.
Since September 6, 2016, this position has been held by Msgr. John A. Zuraw, JCL, Diocesan Chancellor, who is stepping down as Safe Environment Coordinator. Msgr. Zuraw explained that the ministry of pastoral care for survivors and the maintenance of safe environment continues to be front and center in the Diocese of Youngstown. The competency, compassion and consistency that Mr. Colucy brings to this position, along with his ability to be full time, continues to create a culture of safety for children and young people, within the diocese.
