Provide Teaching Services and Support for Students in Reading and/or Math, Grades K-8 at St. Mary School (Massillon)

Full Time Salary position with Educational Service Center [(M-F: 180 Days)]

Primary Location          ST MARY’S SCHOOL Salary Range Per ESC Certified Salary Schedule Shift Type                Full Time

Description: Provide supplemental teaching services and supports for students in Reading and/or Mathematics Grades K – 8 within the district/building.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure safety of students
  • To assist students academically
  • Tutor in subject area assigned and progress monitor student achievement through pre and post assessments
  • Effectively manage individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment Collaborate with the student’s classroom teacher as instruction progresses to ensure that appropriate skills are being addressed.
  • Works with students individually and in small or large groups, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and materials to foster student progress
  • Tutor students in the locations and at the times designated
  • Reinforce concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways Maintain respect at all times for confidential information , e.g., home and discipline situations, medical background and family history
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal/Curriculum Director/Director of State & Federal Programs
  • Attend professional development as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Appropriate certification / licensure

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  • Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology Basic knowledge of all other subject matter
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem solving skills Experience working with children
  • Training in varied instructional methods Basic computer skills
  • Excellent reading comprehension

Equipment Operated: Computer / SMART Board

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
  • Interaction among unruly children
  • Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing

Press Release | After a period of consultation among parish representatives and the diocese’s presbyteral council, The Most Rev. David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, has accepted the recommendation of Rev. Maciej (Matthew) Mankowski, pastor of Massillon’s St. Barbara Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary Parish to merge the three parishes, effective January 1, 2023. The new parish will include all three church buildings which will retain their names as customary in Church tradition, while the parish itself will be known as “Divine Mercy Parish.”
