Report Issued By Pennsylvania Grand Jury

The Pennsylvania Grand Jury issued a report today, August 14, 2018 that details child sexual abuse by clergy going back more than 70 years in six dioceses of Pennsylvania.
This report reminds us of the grave failings that the Church must acknowledge and for which we must seek forgiveness. The passing of time does not make an act of abuse against a child or anyone less horrific. The leadership of the Catholic Church in the United States is committed to rooting out those clergy who used their positions of trust to betray the most vulnerable in our society. Likewise victims are encourage to contact law enforcement as well as the diocese where the alleged abuse occurred.
In the past 30 years, scientific, psychological and medical understanding of sexual abuse has evolved significantly. The Diocese of Youngstown is committed to addressing this sin and crime, supporting survivors and encouraging survivors to come forward. The Diocese of Youngstown’s Child Protection Policy may be found on our website.
