Prayer Service at St. Ambrose, Garrettsville to Honor Legacy of St. Michael, Windham

On Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2pm, at St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville (10692 Freedom Street), The Most Rev. David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, will lead a prayer service to honor the legacy of St. Michael Church in Windham. The service will be in thanksgiving for St. Michael Church, which was merged with St. Ambrose parish in 2021 and closed in 2022, following consultation with parishioners and the diocese’s priest council. In recognition of St. Michael Parish’s sixty-nine year history, the St. Michael statue that was in St. Michael Church will be moved into the nave of St. Ambrose Church. During the prayer service, Bishop Bonnar will unveil the statue in its new location and offer a prayer of dedication.

Following the prayer service, Bishop Bonnar will meet with the parishioners in the parish hall. During this time, parishioners will have the opportunity to share memories of St. Michael Parish, which will be entered into the Diocesan Archives.

Merger of St. Barbara, St. Joseph, and St. Mary Parishes, Massillon, and Establishment of Divine Mercy Parish

Press Release | After a period of consultation among parish representatives and the diocese’s presbyteral council, The Most Rev. David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, has accepted the recommendation of Rev. Maciej (Matthew) Mankowski, pastor of Massillon’s St. Barbara Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary Parish to merge the three parishes, effective January 1, 2023. The new parish will include all three church buildings which will retain their names as customary in Church tradition, while the parish itself will be known as “Divine Mercy Parish.”
