Two (2) Names are Added to the List of Credibly Accused Priests

Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced in the Fall of 2018 a list of names of those who have served in the Diocese of Youngstown since its establishment in 1943 who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.  Today, this list is supplemented based on determinations of the Diocesan Review Board of a credible allegation.

Therefore, Bishop Murry has added to the list the name of Reverend William Hohman (deceased), as a priest credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.

William Hohman was ordained a priest in 1938 as a member of the Marianist Order.  Coming to Youngstown in 1943, he served at St. Stephen Parish, Niles, St. Brendan Parish, Youngstown, St. George Parish, Lisbon, St. Joseph Parish, Alliance, St. Ann Parish, East Liverpool and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Aurora.  He died in 1988.

Also, the Reverend Richard Kennedy, MSC, Provencial Superior of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, has informed the Diocese of Youngstown, that the Reverend Daniel Cipar (deceased) has been added to their list of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.  Since he served in the Diocese of Youngstown he has been also added to our list.

Ordained in 1961, Daniel Cipar came to the Diocese of Youngstown as a Missionary of the Missionary of the Sacred Heart in 1993.  He was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, East Palestine in 1993 where he remained until his retirement in 2010.  He was incardinated into the Diocese of Youngstown in 2002.  He died in 2018. The Diocese of Youngstown encourages anyone who may have experienced sexual abuse by clergy or others associated with the Church to notify law enforcement and also the Diocesan Victim’s Assistance Coordinator, Mr. Dominic Colucy at 330-718-1388.
