LOUISVILLE, OH – The Diocese of Youngstown announces the sale of St. Joseph Care Center (SJCC), also known as St. Joseph Senior Living, Louisville, to Lemmon-DeHoff Acquisition and Holding Company, an Ohio Limited Liability Company.  The sale was finalized on May 31, 2025.

The decision to sell the senior living community was made by the St. Joseph Care Center Corporation in November of 2023.  The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of the Youngstown Catholic Diocese, serves as the Chairman of the Corporation.

Years of significant financial losses amid the complex challenges facing standalone long-term care facilities throughout the United States, including the rising costs of providing quality care, factored into the decision to sell St. Joseph Care Center.

The new ownership of St. Joseph Care Center will continue to endorse the organization’s Catholic identity, as well as its tradition of providing quality, compassionate care to residents.

Significant investments are planned for the facility’s physical plant, including upgrades and renovations to existing space, as well as new construction. These improvements are designed to ensure that residents receive the best possible care in a safe, comfortable, and contemporary environment.

“The Diocese’s primary concern from the moment the difficult decision was made to sell St. Joseph Care Center has been for the residents,” explains Bishop David J. Bonnar.  “Working with the consulting firm McMahon & Associates, our Diocesan leadership executed a very thoughtful and intentional process of finding a buyer with a footprint in the local community and a respect for St. Joseph Care Center’s Catholic identity, mission and tradition of quality, compassionate service.”

Established by the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Mark as a Hospice in 1927, St. Joseph Care Center includes a 60-bed skilled nursing facility; a 49-unit assisted living facility; an 18-bed memory care unit; and a 66-unit independent living facility.  Nineteen of the 60 beds in the skilled nursing facility are dedicated to a wellness center for rehabilitation.

Lemmon-DeHoff Acquisition and Holding Company, LLC, is based in Stark County, not far from St. Joseph Care Center.

“Since health care and senior living services are best recognized and valued at the local level, we are pleased that St. Joseph Care Center’s future will remain under local stewardship,” says William (Bill) Lemmon, Chief Executive Officer of Lemmon-DeHoff Acquisition and Holding Company.

Both the Lemmon and DeHoff families are long-standing residents with extensive experience in senior living services and a deep understanding of the needs and preferences of seniors.  Partnering together for nearly half a century, Lemmon Development and DeHoff Development have a wide range of projects in their portfolio, including senior living, multifamily living, retail, and land development.  With their commitment to innovative and sustainable development, they recognize the importance of enhancing the environment in which the residents live.  Lemmon-DeHoff has a vision for St. Joseph Care Center and anticipates making capital improvements to the facility to bring that vision to life for Stark County and St. Joseph Care Center residents.
