Let us Pray for Persons With Disabilities, especially in July

July is  Disability Pride Month, honoring the history, achievements, and experiences of the broader disability community. This month-long observance commemorates the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. [1, 2, 3]  As our country celebrates the 250 Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, may we also celebrate our inter-dependance!

Attention Bulletin Editors, as well as Parish Liturgical Coordinators and prayer group leaders: please share these petitions for persons facing challenges, including those with mental health concerns, in upcoming meeting and event prayers, and in the Universal Prayers at weekend Liturgies (or include in your parish bulletin).

Consider using one each week:

1. That families that include members with any disabilities will find a welcoming home in the Catholic Church as our parishes strive for inclusivity and supportive services, let us pray to the Lord.  R/.

2. For parishes to find the resources they need to reach out to all their members, especially those with disabilities,  physical, mental, or sensory, and for  their families and care-givers, let us pray to the Lord. R/.

3.  That growth in understanding of autism, mental illness, and other disabilities will lead to relationships of support and increase a sense of belonging for those who live with disabilities and their families, let us pray to the Lord.  R/.

4. That we seek additional ways to include person with disabilities, and their families, in more of our parish organizations, minstries and programs by making accommodations as needed and extending personal invitations, let us pray to the Lord.  R/.
