YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Local Catholic organizations will come together to commemorate the Jubilee of the Poor (November 16) with an outreach event for individuals and families experiencing the effects of poverty. A “Community Day of Hope” will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, located at 3020 Reeves Rd NE, Warren, OH 44483. The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, will be present at the event for part of the day to offer a blessing and engage with attendees.

The Catholic Church declares a “Jubilee Year” every 25 years as a special time of grace, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal. The theme of the 2025 Jubilee Year is “Pilgrims of Hope.”  The Church has set aside several days this year to recognize various groups of people in society, including those who live in poverty. The Community Day of Hope is an effort to provide our neighbors in need with tangible goods and access to information, resources and spiritual support.

Guests attending the Community Day of Hope event (https://www.ccdoy.org/2025/06/30/community-day-of-hope/) can expect to receive material assistance such as free personal care and hygiene products; Thanksgiving food bags; winter coats, hats, and gloves for children and adults; and an on-site meal. Mercy Health will provide mobile clinic services and health screenings. Guests will also have access to Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul case workers, as well as legal information, resources about Catholic schools and tuition assistance programs, and much more. Information about the Catholic faith and devotional opportunities will also be available for those who are interested.

The Community Day of Hope is sponsored by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown in partnership with Mercy Health Youngstown, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, St. Vincent de Paul of Northeast Ohio, 898 Marketing, local Catholic schools, parishes, and other diocesan ministries. Funding for the Community Day of Hope is made possible by the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley; St. Michael Church, Canfield; and Church Budget Envelope Company, as well as donations from Henry Shein Cares and other individuals and groups in the community.
