As a native son of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, I celebrate the good news that our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has tapped my brother and friend, Bishop Mark Eckman to be the 13th Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Having lived with Bishop Eckman for several years when we were priests serving in the same diocese, I am keenly aware of his genuine humility, pastoral zeal, and priestly heart. The clergy, religious, and faithful will be well served by Bishop Eckman and his many gifts as well as his rich experience of being a pastor.
I offer my sincere and heartfelt prayers to Bishop Eckman and the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend David J. Bonnar
Bishop of Youngstown
