YOUNGSTOWN, OH—The Office of Faith Formation and Lay Ecclesial Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown offers new online and in person opportunities for adults seeking to learn more or deepen their understanding of topics in faith and Catholic Church practice. Courses beginning May 6 include “Faith, Hope, and Love: The Seven Catholic Epistles,” led by Al Pompeo. Other online courses May through September include “Preparing Hearts and Minds,” led by Margie Hynes; “My Teachers Were Saints,” led by Eileen Edwards; “Adolescent Catechesis,” led by Bob Barto; “Catholic Belief and Tradition,” led by Sister Regina Rogers; and “Catholics Engaging with Social Media,” led by Cindee Case. Beginning June 4 “Adolescent Catechesis” will be held in person from 6-8 pm, at Christ Our Savior Parish led by Jerry Land.

The online sessions allow flexibility in schedules because learners can read, reflect, and respond at any time of the day. Materials are provided and assignments posted at the beginning of a given week, and participants have the week to respond, until the following week’s learning is posted. The in-person sessions allow group discussion and immediate feedback. Courses vary in the number of weeks, from three to fourteen. Course fees vary depending on costs of materials and the length of the course.

Course dates and descriptions can be found by going to the website Catechist Café, (https://catechistcafe.weebly.com) under “For Catechists/Catechist Courses.”
