The Diocese of Youngstown is pleased to continue the celebration of its 80th anniversary, with an anniversary Mass on Sunday, June 25, at 4 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. The Most Rev. David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, will be the principal celebrant, with the diocese’s priests as concelebrants. All are welcome.
After Mass, there will be an outdoor tented reception on the cathedral campus. The diocesan Archives Office will also present an indoor historical display of the diocese’s history. The display will open before Mass, at 2 p.m., and again after Mass, and will be located in the diocesan conference room and accessed via the main diocesan office entrance on Elm Street.
The Diocese of Youngstown was established on May 15, 1943. Anniversary celebrations so far have included a diocesan pilgrimage to Scotland and Ireland the first week of June, led by Bishop David Bonnar with parishioners from throughout the diocese. The pilgrimage included Mass on the island of Iona on June 9, the Feast Day of Saint Columba, patron of the diocese. Celebrations will continue over the course of the anniversary year.
In conjunction with the 80th Anniversary, Bishop Bonnar also released his second pastoral letter, Practicing Faith, Hope, and Love: Living the Virtues Together in Tough Times, available at www.doy.org/faith-hope-love/.
