The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, announces his appointment of Mr. Nick Beyer as President/Principal of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio, effective July 1, 2022.
As President/Principal, Mr. Beyer will be responsible for working with the stakeholders of Cardinal Mooney High School, including the Board of Directors, alumni, school administration and faculty to continue the long-standing mission of “Sanctity, Scholarship, and Discipline.”
Mr. Beyer is currently Principal at Beaumont School in Cleveland Heights, where he previously served as Dean of Academics. As Dean of Academics, Mr. Beyer led Beaumont School to become the first all-girl International Baccalaureate World School in Northeast Ohio. After five years, he was elevated to the Principal position. As Principal, Mr. Beyer has worked with the school leadership team, faculty, and staff to continue the school’s improvement, making significant changes to Beaumont’s bell schedule, academic offerings, and enrichment programs. Furthermore, he has contributed to Beaumont’s long-range planning, helping develop the school’s current strategic plan and capital improvement projects. For the first seven years of his career in education, Mr. Beyer taught Social Studies and was Department Chair at Benedictine High School in Cleveland.
Mr. Beyer was raised in the greater Cleveland area, attending St. Gabriel Elementary School and Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin High School. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in Integrated Social Studies with a minor in History. After his bachelor’s degree, he graduated from John Carroll University with a Master’s in Educational Administration. More recently, he completed a post-master program at Ursuline College. He is a licensed teacher, principal, and superintendent by the Ohio Department of Education.
Mr. Beyer lives with his wife and daughter in Cleveland’s University Heights, where they are active members of Church of the Gesu Parish.
Bishop Bonnar welcomes Mr. Beyer to his position, saying, “I am excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Nick Beyer as the new President/Principal of Cardinal Mooney High School. Mr. Beyer is not only a devout, practicing Catholic but he also is passionate about Catholic Education. I believe that Mr. Beyer is just what Mooney needs at this time. He has an energy that is contagious. I have no doubt that he will build on the strong foundation put in place by President Mr. Tom Maj and Principal Dr. Mary Anne Beiting who have so faithfully continued the rich and Catholic Mooney tradition.”
Mary Fiala, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Youngstown, adds, “Mr. Beyer’s previous experience puts him in a position to continue to serve the students and families of Cardinal Mooney High School both academically and spiritually.”
Mr. Beyer comments, “I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and excited to join the Mooney Family. Cardinal Mooney has such a great tradition and far-reaching reputation. I am eager to partner with all of the different members of the community and begin the noble work of fulfilling the school’s worthy mission.”
Beyer succeeds Mr. Thomas Maj as President and Dr. Mary Anne Beiting as Principal. Both have contributed over 40 years to Catholic education as both teachers and administrators. Their joint years of experience as well as their dedication to Mooney have set a solid path forward.
