Bishops Bonnar, Barbins to Lead Ecumenical Study Day & Celebration Event

The event takes place on September 22 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Streetsboro

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Bishop David Bonnar, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, and Bishop Laura Barbins, Bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will lead an ecumenical study and celebration at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Streetsboro, on Sunday September 22, 2024 from 2:30-7:00 P.M. The day will include a presentation, panel discussion, prayer and dinner.

The event features a keynote address from Joy Schroeder, professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary and an official participant of the National Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue.

This year’s study day celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, which was signed in 1999 by the Vatican and member churches of the Lutheran World Federation. The Doctrine of Justification is also recognized by many ecumenical partners.

Dr. Schroeder, Bishop Bonnar, and Bishop Barbins will help participants explore the significance of past ecumenical achievements and the future of friendship among christians. This event is sponsored by the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
