Diocese of Youngstown Announces Priest Retirements

All three priests will retire from the diocese effective July 1

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Diocese of Youngstown is announcing the retirements of three priests, effective July 1: Monsignor Michael Cariglio, Father David Merzweiler and Father Stephen Wassie.

Monsignor Cariglio has served the Diocese of Youngstown for 55 years. He has spent the past 39 years as rector and pastor of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Youngstown–Saint Anthony Parish. He is also a canon lawyer and served as judicial vicar of the diocesan Tribunal.

Father David Merzweiler has served the Diocese of Youngstown for 48 years. For the past 36 years he has been pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Lake Milton as well as pastor of Saint Mary & Saint Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.

Father Stephen Wassie has served the Diocese of Youngstown for the past 45 years. He is the pastor of Saint George Parish in Lisbon, Saint Philip Neri Parish in Dungannon, Saint Agatha Mission in West Point and Saint John the Evangelist Parish in Summitville.
