YOUNGSTOWN, OH – In honor of the Jubilee of Hope, the Diocese of Youngstown is re-issuing “The March of the Eucharist” as the August issue of The Catholic Echo Magazine. The 52-page keepsake contains 70 new black and white illustrations (by Nate Miller) of each parish’s patron saint.
In 1951, Youngstown’s first bishop James McFadden compiled The March of the Eucharist, including every parish at the time and honoring the 1950 Jubilee year. Bishop McFadden remarked that “Devotion to Christ the King in the Eucharist is the source and inspiration of all Catholic action. The Church has no greater power to strengthen those souls who wish to devote their lives to the service of Christ than the Most Blessed Sacrament.”
Current Youngstown Bishop David J. Bonnar says, “The Holy Eucharist remains for us a power, presence and peace, as we continue our earthly journey on the way to heaven. This new edition of The March of the Eucharist coincides with the 100th anniversary of the establishment by Pope Pius XI of the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. In a world of many powers and influences, we behold our Savior as our King. We also thank Almighty God for the gift of faith that helps us on our journey.”
On June 22, Catholic Bishops across the country concluded a three-year National Eucharistic Revival, which provided the opportunity to look to our early days of faith to deepen our devotion to the Eucharist. The Diocese of Youngstown participated in the revival with the theme “The March of the Eucharist Continues.” This commemorative second edition of “The March of the Eucharist” celebrates continued devotion to the Holy Eucharist in our diocese.
Online interactive versions of the 2025 edition, as well as the 1951 original, will be available by mid-August at www.catholicecho.org/magazine
