Enthronement of the Sacred Heart

The Office of Worship has provided the following guidance for the ritual adapted from the Book of Blessings. It should occur after the Prayer after Communion and before the final blessing at Mass.

The assembly is asked to respond to the Litany with the response:  “We place our trust in you.” and to recite the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart prayer at the end of the ritual, therefore a small worship aid will need to be produced for this weekend. After the Prayer of Blessing while the image is being either sprinkled or incensed an appropriate antiphon or refrain may be sung. Please consult with your parish musician.
Prayer of Consecration

Presider: Together let us pray the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

All recite together:

Sacred Heart of Jesus,
we the members of ____________________parish
Parish Name
consecrate ourselves to your most loving Heart.
We come before You
to offer our thanks, sacrifices, and prayers;
our thoughts, words and deeds.
Come Lord Jesus into our hearts, homes, and families
as our King of love.
Help us to lead good lives and to remain faithful to You.
Strengthen us against temptation,
help us to love one another,
and to spread your kingdom among all people.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, hear our prayer
and accept our consecration. Amen.

In honor of the 350th Jubilee for the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Bishop David J. Bonnar released his third Pastoral Letter: “Take Heart! Do Not Lose Heart! Behold the Sacred Heart!” The full letter can be found online at doy.org/pastoral-letter-behold-the-sacred-heart. A Spanish translation entitled “¡Ánimo! ¡No se desanimen! ¡He aquí el Sagrado Corazón!” is available on a translated version of the webpage: https://doy.org/tercera-carta-pastoral-del-obispo-bonnar/.

Within the letter, Bishop Bonnar provides resources to encourage greater devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: “On Sunday, September 28, 2025, we as a diocese will celebrate an enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in every church.” Additional details will be sent directly to parishes about this special liturgy.

In addition, an enthronement will be celebrated at the Clergy Convocation: September 8-11, 2025, at the Deacons Day of Reflection on September 13, and during the Central Staff Retreat on September 29.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Very Rev. Michael Balash, Vicar for Clergy and Religious Services and Director of the Office of Worship: mbalash@youngstowndiocese or 330-744-8451 Ext. 282.
