First Friday Divine Mercy Chaplet for Prison Ministry Starts in July

Prison Chaplain Padre Ernesto Rodriguez has made the great suggestion to encourage individuals or groups to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet one Friday per month at 3pm. Our intention will be for all those involved in the justice system. This includes incarcerated or detained people, and also their families on the outside, victims of crimes, returning citizens trying to re-enter communities, and of course those in ministry serving any of those groups.

In June, our bishops consecrated the U.S. to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. So let’s renew our devotion with prayer! Honestly, it is an inconvenient time to start on Friday, July 3rd. But considering all that our brothers and sisters endure, it’s a small but fitting sacrifice to make.

Meagen Farrell, Communications & Social Concerns Director, has set up a Google Meet (video conference) and calendar reminder starting Friday, July 3rd for the next 9 months. Email mfarrell@youngstowndiocese.org for the calendar invite with the Google Meet link or phone number to call in.

You can pray along from home using these instructions or the Divine Mercy app.

Join the 1st Friday Divine Mercy Chaplet for Prison Ministry Starting in July

Is your heart heavy over ICE detainees, or know someone impacted by time in prison or jail? DOY Prison Ministry invites you to join us in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3pm for 9 First Fridays starting on July 3rd, 2026. Our intention will be for incarcerated people, their families on the outside, victims of crimes, returning citizens re-entering communities, staff of correctional facilities, and those in prison ministry. May we all be beacons of Christ’s Divine Mercy! You can follow along with any rosary beads and get instructions and a free app at TheDivineMercy.org. For details about praying along live, or about DOY Prison Ministry, email Meagen Farrell, Communications & Social Concerns Director, at mfarrell@youngstowndiocese.org.

NOTE FOR PARISHES, SCHOOLS & RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES: We encourage you to add this intention to your prayer lists or intercessions: “For all those incarcerated or detained and those who love them, teach us all to be instruments of your peace…” You can also encourage members of your community to submit specific people to pray for by name (using first name, last initial for privacy).
