On June 17, 2024, the Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown accepted the resignation of Reverend Michael A. Swierz from the pastorate of Saint Patrick Parish, Hubbard, the Presidency of Saint Joseph the Provider School, and as Dean of Trumbull County. Father Swierz has been placed on administrative leave because of admitted actions that constituted violations of Diocesan policies. The action at issue occurred while he was at Saint Rose Parish, Girard in the late 1980’s. The investigation into these matters is ongoing and Father Swierz is cooperating in the investigation. The Diocese will not provide further comment on either the investigation or Father Swierz’s situation at this time.

Reverend Robert England, from parochial vicar at Saint Christine Parish, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, and Saint Brendan Parish, in Youngstown to parochial vicar at Saint Michael Parish, Canton, and Ss. Philip and James Parish, Canal Fulton, with residence at Saint Michael Parish Rectory.Â
Reverend Michael Marcelli, at his request, relieved of his duties as parochial vicar at Saint Patrick Parish and University Parish Newman Center, Kent, and granted permission to be absent from the Diocese of Youngstown to assume priestly service in the Diocese of Cleveland, ad experimentum, for five-years.Â
Reverend Kevin Bertleff, to administrator of the newly merged parish – Saint Joseph Parish, Mogadore, and Saint Peter of the Fields Parish, Rootstown, which be known as Saint John Neumann Parish on July 1, 2024, with residence for one-year at Immaculate Conception Parish Rectory in Ravenna under the mentorship of Very Rev. William Kraynak, V.F.Â
Reverend William Wainio, to parochial vicar at Saint Patrick Parish and University Parish Newman Center in Kent with residence at Saint Patrick Parish Rectory. Very Rev. John Sheridan, V.F. will serve as mentor.Â
Reverend Bala Prasad Marneni, as parochial vicar at Saint Columba Cathedral, Saint Edward Parish, and Holy Apostles Parish in Youngstown effective June 10, 2024, under the mentorship of Rev. Raymond Thomas. Â
