Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry
St. Jude, St. Patrick, and Our Lady of Lourdes Parishes in Columbiana are recruiting for a Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
Scope of Responsibility:
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry provides overall leadership and direction in encountering and accompanying young people in their teens, twenties, and thirties through hospitality, evangelization, community and leadership development, faith formation, and missionary engagement appropriate for the age groups. This professionally trained minister reports directly to the Director of Faith Formation.
Youth Ministry
- Recruit, train, assign, evaluate and support a core group of adult and youth leaders, providing for their enrichment and ongoing formation
- Bring the Gospel message into the life experiences teens are living today and provide opportunities for youth to hear and respond to the Gospel message
- Conduct youth meetings and planning
- Offer social events, field trips, mission trips
- Organize fundraising experiences, with help from parents
- Develop youth catechesis, Bible Study and other experiences
- Coordinate and chaperone youth service projects
- Plan, coordinate, participate and implement retreats (at least one per year) and assist in the preparation of liturgical celebrations, and evenings of prayer and reflection
- Promote Diocesan Youth Convention, National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)
- Develop a network for reaching out to youth, communicating with young people on an ongoing basis, particularly to the alienated
- Be available for and set times for listening, advising, and referral
- Make special efforts to gain the endorsement, support, and involvement of all adults, especially parents and parish organizations, developing the kind of relationship with parents that are conducive to open communication between parents and youth
- Encourage and assist youth to join parish ministries and activities
- Confirm that all adults are in full compliance with the Safe Environment Policy prior to serving in Youth Ministry
- Organize all forms, permissions, etc. required for activities and events (See section F of Directory of Catechesis)
Young Adult Ministry
- Accompany the Pastor, parish staff, and leadership (including the Pastoral Council) in developing a greater awareness and understanding of young adults (18-39) and their culture today.
- Integrate young adults into parish life through intentional and pastoral efforts that include hospitality, evangelization, community and leadership development, faith formation, and missionary engagement in the Church and society
- Establish and facilitate an advisory team of young adults, who provide insight for parish leadership and support the staff member in his/her program work
Administration and Communication
- Initiate ways of gathering data on the needs, interests, attitudes and beliefs of youth and young adults
- Identify parishioners in age group using parish data system and establish contact with them
- Keep informed through attendance at diocesan, regional, and national conferences, and membership in professional associations
- Be aware of community agencies and resources that interface with youth and young adults
- Maintain necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and time, and attendance if necessary
- Initiate procedures for evaluating all aspects of the parish’s ministry to youth and young adults
- Determine effective means for publicizing and promoting programs in youth and young adult ministry
- Maintain ongoing communication with youth and young adults about parish and program events
- Keep the parish faith community informed of youth and young adult ministry activities and goals
- Advise, communicate and cooperate with other parish and diocesan organizations
- Any other duties as requested by Director of Faith Formation and/or Pastor
