Catholic Charities Serving Portage and Stark Counties has been selected to participate in a national pilot program called Lifting Moms Out of Poverty (LMOP), developed by Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA).
This exciting initiative is designed to help young families overcome barriers to success by building on our existing First Step program. Through LMOP, we are able to offer enhanced case management and expanded material assistance to qualifying families.
Program Highlights:
-
LMOP allows us to help with non-traditional expenses, such as court costs, driver’s license reinstatement, and educational fees.
-
Families receive standard First Step services, plus access to job skill training and employment connections through partnering agencies in Portage and Stark Counties.
-
Caseworkers benefit from additional training and tools—including a mobile app that helps families set goals and celebrate progress.
-
Program effectiveness is being evaluated in partnership with Catholic University of America, focusing on family resiliency, parenting, and financial stability.
We are honored to represent Ohio in this innovative effort and grateful for the opportunity to better serve families in our community.

Families facing poverty face unimaginable struggles—especially single mothers trying to make ends meet for their children.
Please join us in lifting these moms up in prayer as they work to create better futures for themselves and their families.
Your prayers are a powerful way to show support and make a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
Prayer for Families in Need
Lord, we ask for your loving presence and guidance to be with all mothers and families in need. May they feel your peace and find the strength to overcome the challenges they face. We pray that through your grace, they find hope, healing, and the support they need to move forward in faith and dignity. Amen.
