The conclave to elect the 267th Pope begins on May 7 in Rome

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Bishop David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown will celebrate Mass at Saint Columba Cathedral on Tuesday, May 6 at 12:10 p.m. to pray for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit for the Cardinal Electors as they prepare to enter the Conclave. All are welcome to attend Mass. Following the Mass, the Eucharist will be exposed, and the Cathedral will be open for prayer and adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament until 6:30 p.m., at which time Bishop Bonnar will lead Benediction. The Mass and adoration will be live streamed on https://catholicecho.org/live The Conclave to elect a new Pope for the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics begins on May 7 in Rome.
The nine days of official mourning for the Holy Father Pope Francis, called Novendailes, will end on Sunday, May 4. Until that date, parishes across the Diocese of Youngstown are invited to continue to pray for the repose of Pope Francis, and encouraged to offer Mass for the deceased Pope. Black bunting used on doors of parish churches or pictures of Pope Francis that were placed in the actuary with a votive candle should be removed following the last Mass on Sunday, May 4. Parishes are invited to designate a church to be open during the day and for a period of adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament to be held on Tuesday, May 6 to call upon God to inspire the Cardinal Electors as they prepare to enter the Conclave.
Before the Conclave begins, prayers should be offered frequently for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The “Litany of the Holy Spirit,” may be used by individuals and parish groups.
Also, Bishop Bonnar will celebrate Mass at Divine Mercy Parish, Saint Barbara Church (2813 Lincoln Way West) in Massillon on Wednesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m., as Cardinals begin to gather in the Conclave. All are welcome to attend this Mass as well.
