Records and certificates for baptisms both before and after adoption -NEW

Sacramental records are not open for public viewing. If you are supplying a scanned record, be certain that only the single record for the person requesting it shows in the scan. Do not scan a record for a baptism celebrated before adoption – make a certificate for that record using the name(s) of the adoptive parent(s), the child’s new legal surname, the date and place of birth, the date and place of Baptism, and the name of the minister who administered the sacrament. The name(s) of the natural parent(s) and the sponsor(s) shall not be given and no mention of the fact of adoption is to be made on the certificate. For other notes on making certificates for baptisms both before and after adoption, see our Sacramental Records Guidelines, available online: https://doy.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Sacramental-Records-Guidelines.pdf

The Archives Office is pleased to search for sacramental records of closed parishes and is happy to assist parishes as needed.

If you have any questions about parish records and archives, you are welcome to contact Joan Lawson at 330-744-8451 x290, or email jlawson@youngstowndiocese.org

If you need to send a notation for a baptismal record, or find a sacramental record from a closed or merged parish, but aren’t certain where the records reside, please phone the Archives, or check this page on Catechist Café: https://catechistcafe.weebly.com/sacramental-records.html
